15.04.10 UK Election Special - we demand a re-style For those of you who don't know, it's election time in the UK. Many of you will be thinking "But Dom, how can we tell the leaders and their parties apart? Aren't they all the same?" and you'd have a point. Apart from this and other minutiae such as manifestos, tax pledges, blah, blah (boring), much of the UK press is making a fuss about each of the candidates and their choice of attire, "is he wearing a tie?", "does he have a Uniqlo military parka in his wardrobe?". As self-proclaimed arbiters of all things sartorial we thought we'd take this opportunity to do a "style audit" of each major party leader, and Nick Clegg (political joke...so what?) and suggest some fashion pointers to help them win over the electorate. First up we have leader of the Labour Party and current Prime Minister Gordon Brown. Critics would say Brown is uncharismatic, bland and boring. So we thought he could learn from a man with huge charm and charisma and steal his style - Russell Brand. Skinny jeans, open shirts and crazy hair - it would work. RUSSELL BROWN
Next up we have leader of the Conservative Party and until relatively recently pretty much guaranteed favourite to be the next Prime Minister. Critics have pointed to David Cameron's priviliged up-bringing and upper-class background as something that alienates much of the electorate. So we say he needs to urban himself up, innit. And what better way to do that than steal Dappy from N-Dubz' style. Na Na Niiiii. DAPPY CAMERON
Lastly we have Neil Clegg. Sorry, Nick Clegg, leader of the Liberal Democrat party. Many commentators don't take the Lib Dems seriously, although Vince Cable has become something of a favourite with the public since the credit crunch took a bite out of our backsides. A charge often levelled against Nick Clegg is that he's anonymous and nobody knows who he is. Well Nick my friend, Gaga didn't get where she is today by being subtle did she? Take a leaf out of her book, and wear something crazy. It might just win you some extra votes. GAGA CLEGG
So people, there you have it. Please make sure you all vote; whatever your choice it's extremely important to exercise this right that many people around the world still do not have.
