06.06.10 Graduate Fashion Week 2010

Graduate Fashion Week 2010 kicks off today at Earls Court and runs until Thursday 10th June and is an opportunity for the hottest new design graduates to showcase their work.  Sponsored by River Island the show is a real opportunity for new designers to get their work seen by important figures in the world of fashion and is globally respected.  Figures attending last year included Matthew Williamson, Giles Deacon, Claudia Schiffer and Harold Tillman.  Check out http://gfw.org.uk for more details and info on how to see some of the action for yourself.

If you want a taste of some of the graduates that impressed last year, then River Island is selling two designs by Myrto Stamou, 2009's winner of the River Island Gold Award and the Womenswear Award (below left) priced at £49.99 each, as well as a colourful patterned design by Charlotte Simpson who won the 2009 Zandra Rhodes Catwalk Textile Award, priced at £19.99 (below right).  The River Island website also has some great features on GFW 2010 so be sure to check it out.

17.05.10 Free festival tickets - Summer of Give

Spent all your money on chinos, wedges and sunglasses?  Wish you'd saved some money for the V Festival and Creamfields?  Well my fashionable friends, if you're 18-25 and desperate to get to the festivals this summer, but can't afford it then this is ideal for you!  V the National Young Volunteers service has launched the "Summer of Give" which invites you to volunteer with your creative talent for four hours each day at the festival in return for a festival pass.  So if you're in a band, or you DJ or you have any other kind of creative talent you can share, then head to the website and apply.  Even if you don't have a special talent, there are other opportunities to volunteer.
